Muhlenberg Job Corps heavy equipment students to help construct lake at area park

Students enrolled in the Heavy Equipment training program at Muhlenberg Job Corps Center will soon be using their training to help construct a lake for a park in Henderson County. The Henderson County, Ky., Fiscal Court requested assistance from the Muhlenberg Job Corps heavy equipment training program to help construct a 7-8 acre lake at Sandy Lee Watkins Park. The lake will be located in the 535-acre park complex.

Henderson County Engineer Bill Hubiak met with representatives from Muhlenberg Job Corps to discuss the project and work out an agreement. Hubiak said, “Having students train in an actual construction site environment will be valuable to their future development and employment. Henderson County will also gain from the cooperative agreement by being able to construct a lake that will have a handicap accessible fishing pier for the public.”

Hubiak added, “This joint venture between agencies enhances cooperation between governmental entities and is a plus for the taxpayers of Henderson County.”  Muhlenberg Job Corps students and staff provide many hours of community service to Muhlenberg County and surrounding communities each year.

The project will take several months to complete.
